ACT III
I WANT TO KISS YOU
It has been months since his first rendezvous with Yen. He had been going back ever since, to the little clearing around the large oak tree. Their secret spot, hidden from the entire world. Both of their worlds. Some days, they would exchange stories about their lives and laugh at silly things. Jiro would tell him all about his school and friends. They spent other days sitting under the canopy of the Oak, lying in silence for hours. They would shield their eyes from the sunlight and the world outside. That day too, Jiro had gone to the forest from school. They were sharing pastries he had brought from one of his favourite shops in the city.
“I told you, these are the best.” Licking the chocolate cream from his hand, he looked over to see how much Yen was enjoying his red velvet. Instead, he found Yen looking at him with a soft expression on his face.
Surprised at the look, Jiro looked down at his dessert. Flustered, he cleared his throat and asked, “If you don’t like your flavour, here taste this.” He had taken a big scoop and thrust the spoon in front of Yen, “mind you, I don’t share my dessert with everyone, especially if it’s chocolate…”
“I want to kiss you.”
“What?” Jiro spluttered, his blabbering cut off in between.
“I want to kiss you!” Yen’s face became red.
“I should go.” Moving the paper plate from his lap, Jiro stood up.
“Stay.” Yen stood up with him. “Please…”
Jiro paused at the pleading tone. “I should go.” He repeated, looking everywhere but at Yen.
Yen stepped towards him and Jiro closed his eyes, his heart hammering. Could he hear that? Jiro wondered.
“Alright, I will not stop you from going back.”
There was that smug tone again, which Jiro found infuriating. But in that moment he couldn’t think, couldn’t reply. With a shaky breath, he opened his eyes to look at Yen.
The time seemed to stand still. They were rooted to their spots. Close. Waiting.
“Okay,” Jiro whispered.
“Okay?” Yen echoed.
“Okay.”
Yen bend a little and pressed their lips together in a light, feathery kiss. It lasted a mere second, but when he pulled away, Jiro let out a whine. Yen laughed, giddy. Reaching out, he encircled Jiro in his arms and swooped in for another kiss. Jiro kissed him back, his lips parting, yielding under the passion.
Yen came up with a gasp and then kissed Jiro again. And again. And again. And Jiro kept kissing him back.
“What have you done to me?” Yen said, his hands resting on Jiro’s face while Jiro’s fingers gripped his shoulders like a lifeline. “You are in my head all the time. I am not supposed to be with you. It’s not right.”
Jiro shushed him and leaned in for another kiss. All too content in his arms, he relaxed. Their kisses turned lazy, endearing. Loving.
This moment was not to be rushed. He wished they could stay like this forever.
Soon, Jiro would have to return home. He would have to pretend that he had never crossed the border. That he had not met someone as beguiling.
But right now, here, at this moment, Jiro just couldn’t help himself. So he sought Yen again. Under the oak tree, they sought each other; they sought love.
Right now, everything was fine.
It was perfect.
