Evermore

A spooky knit by Samadrita Ghosh & Soham Dighe

“What’s all this?”

A soft voice made Rishi turn around. There she stands, in what seems like a white dress, her hair in a bun, eyes taking in her surroundings.

“I have been looking for you all day.”, Rishi said, smiling.

“I know. I was…busy.” Kalpana whispered observing the decorations. The red balloons, the candles, the rose petals all around and the dinner plates on the table. A bottle of wine garnishing the beauty.

“Do you…like it?” Rishi mumbled, smiling sheepishly. Kalpana turned to him and said, “What is all this?”

“This is for you.”

“What?”

“Listen. I’m sorry for saying things to you. I really didn’t know what to say but…now I do. I love you, Kalpana. I do. I just, I realised you are the one who kept me alive, kept me sane. You are my best friend and no matter what I don’t want to lose you. Even if you are not what I am, I want to be with you.”

Rishi strode towards her, staring into her beautiful eyes. God, those eyes!! So deep, so emotional, so real. She felt so real as if he could just touch her. But he knows he can’t. If he raises his finger it will just be like touching air. But man, he so badly wanted to touch her. Kalpana giggled. Evidently, she can hear what he’s thinking. She shakes her head and steps forward, faces just inches apart now. She cups Rishi’s face and smiles, immediately melting his heart. Leaning forward she places a soft kiss on his lips. A shiver runs down his spine at the touch. It was like touching an icicle! But still Rishi didn’t mind, a smile tugging at his lips.

“I love you too.”

A whisper and then nothing. Rishi opens his eyes staring at nothing. He is alone. The woman he loves is gone.
