The phone vibrates on the table snapping Rishi out of his out of his trance. It’s Akansha. His heart skipped a beat. Picking up the phone gingerly, he pressed it to his ear and said, “Hello”
An hour passed, 2 hours passed. Rishi and Akansha kept talking, about all of their feelings, the ones they had shared, the ones they couldn’t share and the mistakes they had both made in the relationship, both of them apologizing to the other.
“You look happy!”
Rishi looked up. Kalpana stood there tying her hair in a bun, smiling at her friend.
“Yeah I am. Akansha called. I think…we will be patching up”, Rishi said, a glistening smile dancing on his lips.
Kalpana’s hand paused in her hair as she stared at Rishi. Blinking a few times she asked, “Really! You guys are? Why? I – I thought you broke up for a reason. She used to drive you crazy!”
“Yeah, but I loved her. So it’s okay. Love is all that matters.”
Days passed and the calls from Akansha increased. It was amazing. Rishi felt alive, feeling all those beautiful emotions again. Little did he know, his ghostly friend was getting frustrated with all those PDA. There have been times that Kalpana had mumbled under her breath “Ugh! Get a room” to Rishi when he blew kisses at her on their daily video calls.
Then there were times when she would deliberately switch his phone’s charger off so that the battery dies and once again Kalpana would have Rishi atleast for one evening; and other times she would fiddle and disrupt the router to cut the WiFi off.
She missed her friend, their little moments, the jokes they cracked in the middle of the night. So what if she’s a ghost? Can’t she still feel for someone? Can’t she fall in love?
