Kanyakumari

Dear Mnemosyne

For a letter that needs to travel over a few millennia, mole mail sure is rapid and fast! I suspect that a mole has been specifically stationed near my bird postal service, for my birds travel only up to our kingdom’s water borders and immediately return, telepathically telling me that they drop it into a molehill that magically appeared in a small island, but hey better for our correspondence!

Thank you Goddess for the gift of language and letter writing! Serious respect! I can’t imagine setting rules of grammar or ways of speech for a mode of communication that everyone must use! Sounds insanely complex!

And wow, you have a system to store memories and experiences? Could you have possibly stored anything about me?

I would prefer to be programmed into a mole than a bear, their lives sure sound purposeful and dedicated!!

And I agree, unless humans have control over their egos, they do make a mess, quite sad.

It is unfortunate for me to read the treatment you have received from the males and Gods of your realm, for me and my brother were brought up neutrally, with no set way of life for him or me based on our gender alone!!

From a very young age, our mother, Rajamatha, has nurtured our natural instincts and capabilities and seen us flourish in the paths that call us.

And also, we are adopted. Long Story.

You see, our mother Rajamatha was the healer of our kingdom and the only person who was able to cure the citizens of a deadly pandemic that unfortunately killed the previous king and wiped out his entire family before she could discover the cure for it.

Our mother travelled far and wide to all the herb bearing mountains and hills of India in her search for the best herbs and chanced upon us two, mere babies, who had miraculously appeared next to the grove of the herb that would provide the cure for her people!

She recounts that we didn’t seem to be abandoned or malnourished babies, for we were absolutely glowing with health and we didn’t need supervision to be at peace, we merely had to be in each other’s presence!

She took it as a divine order and a forewarning, because unknown to her, that very day the King’s only children, a son and a daughter, had succumbed to the virus, leaving the king heirless, his heart hopeless and his body helpless, for his queen had passed away the day before and this blow was too much for him. He too passed on that day.

Having found the cure, Rajamatha rushed back to her people as fast as her steed would carry her, reached the Kingdom within 3 days, immediately began a mass manufacture of the cure to all the people and healed every citizen possible over the span of one week.

Our people rejoiced and hailed her, renaming her “The Royal Mother” (Raja – Matha) and unanimously decided that the kingdom would now follow her lead.

She announced to her citizens that she would care for the kingdom on behalf of the royal lineage, announced us babies to them and requested them to consider us the Royal Children and gave an open challenge, asking them for a time period of 25 years during which they would be under her care and after which they could decide if the Royal Children were fit enough to be their rulers. (I apologise for my seeming lack of modesty but my people love us to bits)

And from then, we have been under her care.

Me and my brother have learned:

Dharma – the righteous way of life,

Vedas – The Ancient Sciences and Spiritual Practices,

Shastras – The Rules and Order of Hierarchy,

Puranas & Itihasas – Legends, Epics and important historical events.

We practice sword fighting, archery, wrestling and almost all sports (He is a much better swordsman and I am a much better archer)

And this is our life, quite simply.

We have no set practice or time to learn how to be proper rulers – we simply ARE that ruler every minute of our existence.

I and my brother know we have differences in our physiques, physiologies and psychologies and we choose to respect those differences.

I am more intuitive, he is more logical.

I am more creative, he is more practical.

I am more nurturing, he is more protective.

(Though we both have all the above mentioned characteristics and lots more!)

And yes we have discussed the possibility of conflicts of interests arising once we jointly begin to rule our nation.

But it is the mere fact that we value each other and above all value our people infinitely more than we value our egos that will ensure we succeed.

I hope I don’t sound boastful – I am merely confident that nothing and nobody can pit us against each other (we’ve been through a lot together)

And that was a long answer for your first few questions! I believe I have satisfied your curiosity 🙂

As for our Coronation Ceremony, it deserves a whole other letter of its own. But no, we won’t be wearing loopy caps – too impractical!

I am curious to know who Asclepius is! What an interesting name! Also, how does it feel to be immortally eternal? Being mortal, I have plans for my life for I know it will end one day, but how about you?

Awaiting your ever interesting response!

Lots of Barnacles to you (Really sweet creatures once you get to know them)

Bags 🙂
