Dear Lucy,

I have just received your letter and I was transfixed by how different the language is compared to how it is nowadays. I struggled to understand it but I will do my best to give you a satisfactory reply.

The year is 2021, and while many things have changed, certain issues are still existing. Women can vote, work outside the home and even get paid maternity leave. However the patriarchy still exists and as a result, men continue to dominate women in many parts of the world. Moreover, no amount of liberation for women will ever make them completely free from the threats that they face from men in terms of abuse, be it in the home or on the streets in the form of harassment.

What I am interested to hear about is whether you are accustomed to the limitations placed on you as a woman living in the early modern era? Are you in any way, able to contribute to the empowerment of women?

Best regards,

Natasha from the 21st century.
