Neha

All it takes is one choice for a new beginning.

About Neha

Neha is a Counselling Psychologist trained by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) at The Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health (BALM). In the pandemic, she along with Arva co-founded Knit a Tale as a community for anyone with a touch of creativity. Neha is passionate about working with people, using their stories as a tool to help them push past their difficulties and build a life they want for themselves.

Professional Journey

Neha has been practising as a Counselling Psychologist since 2020. She works online with emphasis on the person’s well being and empowering them to be the author of their own story. Creating Knit A Tale was a way to bridge storytelling with community based wellness. It is a way to creatively engage with others, and through this alliance people can feel supported by the group and feel less alone.
Working with children and adolescents is one of Neha’s favourite things to do. For over two years she worked at Sprouts Montessori High School as the Student and Parent Counsellor. She helped the children there through individual sessions and group sessions as well. Her role also included working with parents, workshops for teachers and assissting in drafting the Child Protection Policy, Inclusion Policy as well as the Health and Safety Policy for the school.
At the moment, she is working on developing her skills by engaging in training programs that enable her to help people in a better manner. She is pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling Children and Adolescents from Tata Institute of Social Sciences as well as a Professional Training in Compassionate Inquiry and approach of working with Trauma conceptualised by Dr.Gabor Mate.

Other work and initiatives

Through Knit a Tale, Neha has been able to expand her work in the area of mental wellness to other related areas as well. The team facilitates support groups namely KATfair and Knit Your Own Tale on a regular basis. Workshops have been facilitated like Emotional Alchemy and My Anxious Child along creating a resource that helps everyone be a supportive ally- Therapeutic Ally. These along with fundraising initiatives for CREA Education Trust and Team Everest have given her a wide range of skills and experiences.
Through her education and training she has experience working with children with developmental delays, women who are survivors of domestic violence and acid attacks, women with severe mental health issues, as well as with children from vulnerable communities.

Approach to therapy

Neha believes that one size does not fit all and follows an eclectic approach in her work with inclination towards a narrative approach. She strongly believes in the transformative power groups can have on an individual and a lot of her work surrounds this philosophy. She prioritises safety of the client and aims to create a therapeutic space that is inclusive and can be accessed by all individuals regardless of limitations placed by society.
